Woman facing charges after severe injuries in alleged DUI crash

A woman from Enid, Oklahoma, is facing some significant charges after she has been accused of driving drunk and causing an accident with serious injuries.

The woman, who is 39 years old, was recently arraigned by the Garfield County District Court. The charges she's facing, for causing great bodily injury in the wreck, are felony charges. As such, she could be fined $5,000 and could end up behind bars for anywhere between four and 20 years.

The crash happened on Nov. 26, 2016, just before 1:30 a.m. A police officer who responded to the crash found a man lying on the ground, unconscious, and he was told he woman had hit him after losing control of her car.

The officer then talked to the woman, and he said that he could smell alcohol on her breath. He also said that she was slurring her words and that her eyes were bloodshot. When he asked her what had happened, she wasn't sure on all of the details, though she did admit she'd been driving at a "high rate of speed."

The officer then asked her directly if she'd been drinking and how much she'd had. Reports claim she said "Way too much" and then asked if she'd killed the man she'd hit.

One witness said they heard the woman's car speeding, and that's why the man went out onto his porch. She then lost control, slammed into the porch and hit him.

The man did survive, but he had serious injuries and needed significant medical care. This can be incredibly expensive, and there can be many related costs in some cases -- like lost wages -- which is why it's important for those who are injured to know all of their options to seek compensation.
