What is shared parenting in Oklahoma?

Children who are in the middle of their parents divorcing can suffer from negative impacts. In the past, it was believed that with very few exceptions, children belonged with their parents. Recently, it become more commonplace for parents to have a shared parenting model for child custody. Many believe that this is a better option for the children since they can have both parents equally involved in their upbringing.

Is shared parenting used in all cases?

Shared parenting isn't something that is used in all child custody cases. Any domestic violence, abuse or stalking would prevent this model of custody from being used. Additionally, one of the parents has to request that shared parenting is used and the parents have to agree that they will cooperate with the matters associated with child custody.

What are the benefits of shared parenting?

Shared parenting has several benefits for children. The main benefit is that the child can spend time with both parents. This means that the child might perform better academically and adjust better to social situations that they are placed in. Since the parents work together, the child gets to watch two adults who have differences try to find ways to compromise on important issues.

Even though you might not want to have to deal with your ex regarding your children, the shared parenting model might be what is best for your child. This isn't always the case, but it is one option that you can consider. Be sure that you fully understand how shared parenting would work in your situation so that you can make an informed decision about the suitability.
